Supporting a sustainable future

AusNet is actively supporting the transition to renewable energy, connecting both local and grid-scale renewable generation. We are planning and delivering transmission network projects to reduce potential network constraints and increase the volumes of renewable energy that can be generated across Victoria.

The transmission network continues to expand to support rapid growth in renewable generation. As at 31 December 2023, AusNet has connected 5.85GW of renewables and storage to the transmission, sub-transmission and distribution network, as well as solar PV connections. The proposed Western Renewables Link will be capable of carrying 3GW of electricity, which is enough to power up to one million homes.

At a local level, AusNet is empowering communities to use local resources and infrastructure to deliver community energy projects. Along with solar systems and battery storage across several local energy generation clusters, we are also developing exciting opportunities such as hydrogen conversion, waste to energy and electric vehicle charging networks.

The move to renewable generation means local business opportunities and job creation for the pipeline of projects that need to be completed.
