Newlyn community information session change

The Newlyn community information session planned for this Thursday will no longer proceed.

The Western Renewables Link project team has reluctantly made this decision to ensure we maintain a safe and respectful environment for community members as well as our team.

We apologise to community members who planned to come to our community forum to hear from our project experts. We respect people’s right to protest, but we will not risk the safety of attendees and our team by conducting an information session in a protest environment. We take our duty of care to the community and our staff extremely seriously.

Last week we held community information sessions in Ararat, Waubra, Stawell, and in Ballarat last night. At this stage, sessions are still planned for Bacchus Marsh on 25 October and Melton on 31 October.

We invite the Newlyn and surrounding communities to attend one of our upcoming webinars, or to contact their Land Liaison Officer or our project team at info@westernrenewableslink.com.au to arrange an individual meeting to discuss the project and any questions they may have.

The project will host two webinars on 2 and 28 November. You can register on our project website’s News & Events page.

Recent project updates include increasing the transmission line between Ballarat and Bulgana from 220kV to 500kV, works required near the Bulgana Terminal Station, proposed route changes in the Waubra area, and confirmation of the Hepburn Lagoon southern route option. Landholders and interested community members have also been seeking information about compensation for landholders, farming under transmission lines, and bushfire risk.

About the project

The Western Renewables Link is a proposed electricity transmission line that will carry renewable energy from western Victoria to homes and businesses across the state and into the National Electricity Market.

The project is critical infrastructure required to unlock the renewable energy potential of western Victoria as a key Renewable Energy Zone and will help to deliver clean and affordable energy to all Victorians.
