Australian Energy Market Operator Victorian Planning Project Assessment Conclusions Report (PACR) for VNI West

The Australian Energy Market Operator Victorian Planning (AVP) and Transgrid have released the Project Assessment Conclusions Report (PACR) for the Victoria to New South Wales Interconnector West (VNI West) project.

VNI West is a proposed high capacity 500 kilovolt (kV) double-circuit overhead transmission line that will run between Victoria and New South Wales. It is not an AusNet project, however, will connect to AusNet’s Western Renewables Link (WRL).

Now that the PACR has been released and a preferred option for VNI West has been announced, AusNet will review the detail of the report to understand the implications for the WRL project. AusNet will continue to undertake consultation on WRL with landholders and community, including those in the section between Mt Prospect (north of Ballarat) and Bulgana, as we work through this process.

The VNI West PACR can be found here.

About the project

The Western Renewables Link is a proposed electricity transmission line that will carry renewable energy from western Victoria to homes across the state and into the National Electricity Market.

The project is critical infrastructure required to unlock the renewable energy potential of western Victoria as a key Renewable Energy Zone and will help to deliver clean and affordable energy to all Victorians.
