Further refinements to the Western Renewables Link proposed route

Over the coming months we will further refine the proposed route, leading to the project's final proposed route alignment.

Late last year, AusNet released a proposed route for the Western Renewables Link project (formerly known as the Western Victoria Transmission Project).

Since that time, we have been engaging with landholders and stakeholders, including those living in close proximity to the proposed route, to obtain feedback and assess further refinements to the proposed route.

Over the coming months we will further refine the proposed route, leading to the project's final proposed route alignment. These refinements will be based on consultations with landholders as well as input from other stakeholders along with design considerations.

In the event we do refine the proposed route, we will notify the appropriate landholders and provide them with an opportunity to be briefed on the proposed route refinements. Our goal is to hold and complete such briefings prior to publishing the updated route information.

The proposed route remains subject to further changes and refinements until the final proposed route alignment information is published later this year.

About the project

The Western Renewables Link is a proposed new 190km high-voltage electricity transmission line that will carry renewable energy from Bulgana in Western Victoria to Sydenham in Melbourne’s north-west.

The project is critical infrastructure required to unlock the renewable energy potential of Western Victoria as a key Renewable Energy Zone and will help to deliver clean and affordable energy to Victorians.

Once complete, the additional transmission line capacity will carry enough energy to power more than 500,000 homes.
