Option for Easement process

Does the Western Renewables Link project have compulsory acquisition powers?

AusNet has applied to the Victorian Government for powers to compulsorily acquire easements for WRL following amendments to the Electricity Industry Act 2000.

AusNet does not currently have these powers for WRL and this does not mean that compulsory acquisition will take place immediately. The Victorian Government will decide whether any powers are granted.

Despite the legislative change, our focus remains on working with landowners to reach voluntary easement agreements and there is time for landowners to consider their options. If powers are granted, easements will be acquired only for properties that do not have a voluntary Option for Easement (OFE) agreement in place at the time a Notice of Acquisition is gazetted.

We remain committed to working with landowners to reach agreements that reflect their needs and circumstances.
