Easement

How wide is the easement?

Transmission line easements vary in width depending on the operating voltage, design of the towers, relevant design and safety standards, and site-specific conditions. An easement for a 500kV overhead transmission line, can range from 70m to 100m wide.

Underground transmission electricity cable easements vary in width depending on the operating voltage, design and safety standards of the cable network and site-specific conditions.

Underground transmission electricity cables are usually buried between 1m to 2m under the surface.

A comparable 500kV underground transmission cable easement may be approximately 30m to 35m wide.
