What happens now the Minister has assessed the EES?
The Minister’s assessment concludes the EES process and marks the beginning of the next stage of regulatory approvals for the project. It confirms that the project’s environmental effects can be acceptably managed, subject to conditions and outlines how the project can proceed.
An amendment to the Northern Grampians, Pyrenees, Ballarat, Hepburn, Moorabool and Melton planning schemes is the primary approval for the Project. The Planning Scheme Amendment (PSA) includes an incorporated document which includes specific controls that govern the project’s construction and operation.
AusNet will revise the Planning Scheme Amendment (PSA) in response to the recommendations in the Minister’s assessment and request that the Minister approve the Planning Scheme Amendment (PSA) under Section 20(4) of the Planning and Environment Act 1987 (Vic), without further formal notice.
The project must also secure other approvals including:
- Approval under the Commonwealth Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act
- Environmental and biodiversity approvals
- Cultural heritage approvals
- Permits and consents to manage impacts on waterways, flora and fauna
