What is the primary planning approval for the Western Renewables Link?
The project’s Planning Scheme Amendment GC209 (PSA), which amends the Northern Grampians, Pyrenees, Ballarat, Hepburn, Moorabool and Melton planning schemes, is the primary planning approval for the project.
The PSA establishes the planning controls for design, construction and operation of the project.
The PSA was gazetted on 30 September 2026 and can be viewed here.
Further State and Commonwealth approvals and consents are still required, including:
- Approval under the Commonwealth Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act
- Environmental and biodiversity approvals
- Cultural heritage approvals
- Permits and consents to manage impacts on waterways, flora and fauna
